About the Role

As a Production Shift Lead, you'll play a critical part in the smooth, efficient and safe running of our production areas. You'll oversee Line Leaders across both high-risk and low-risk environments, ensuring targets are met while maintaining excellent standards of quality, compliance, and team performance.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, leading people, and improving ways of working to drive results.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and brief your team daily to drive performance and support development.
  • Coordinate staffing levels across lines and reallocate resource when required.
  • Ensure strong communication with both your team and management.
  • Oversee time & attendance processes and support disciplinary procedures where needed.
  • Organise staff training in partnership with the Training Team.
  • Carry out quality checks and ensure food safety records are completed accurately.
  • Resolve complex production issues and guide the team with clear direction.
  • Investigate customer complaints and implement corrective actions.
  • Identify process improvements and quick-win cost reductions.
  • Maximise slicing line capacity (Grote slicing speeds) and ensure optimum efficiency.
  • Avoid customer shortages and support stock management.
  • Adapt to plan changes to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure all paperwork and procedures are completed correctly and consistently.

You'll also be committed to your own development by attending relevant company training.

Skills & Knowledge

Desirable:

  • Strong computer skills
  • Working understanding of KPIs (labour, yield, waste, plan attainment)
  • Knowledge of line efficiency and production planning
  • Understanding of quality systems, star card procedures, and financial impacts
  • Ability to work under pressure and within budget constraints
  • Ability to provide accurate data

Qualifications

Essential:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent), or relevant processing experience

Desirable:

  • NVQ / FME
  • Food Safety for Manufacturing – Level 2
  • HACCP – Level 2
