Job Description

Shift Manager – Bakery Production

WE'RE HIRING: SHIFT MANAGER (BAKERY PRODUCTION)

Leeds | Full-time | Competitive Salary (Up to £32,000 per annum based on experience) + Benefits

We’re looking for an exceptional Shift Manager to lead our bakery production team. The Shift Manager is the heartbeat of the bakery — owning the shift and turning plans into performance by delivering safe, high-quality production on time.

You will lead from the front, setting the standard for behaviour, food integrity and accountability, ensuring the operation runs with control, consistency and pride. This is a fast-moving, high-volume environment where standards matter and details count.

You’ll work closely with the Production Manager, Operations Manager and Bakery Director to execute plans, solve problems quickly, and keep the operation running smoothly.

If you like structure, predictability, and a quiet life — this is not for you. If you thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments where you take ownership and lead from the front — you’ll fit right in.

Key Responsibilities:

Production & Output

  • Own delivery of daily production plans and output targets
  • Ensure efficient use of labour and resources on shift
  • Maintain control of the production schedule and respond to issues in real time

Quality & Food Integrity

  • Take full ownership of product quality on shift
  • Ensure all products meet specification and customer expectations
  • Prevent defects, rework and non-conformance

Compliance (GMP, Safety & Traceability)

  • Uphold high standards of GMP, hygiene and food safety
  • Ensure full traceability and accurate batch control
  • Maintain an audit-ready environment at all times

Waste & Materials Control

  • Monitor and reduce material waste and giveaway
  • Ensure correct use of ingredients and packaging
  • Identify and act on opportunities to improve efficiency

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate and organise the production team
  • Allocate tasks clearly and manage performance on shift
  • Support training, development and competency
  • Set and enforce high standards of behaviour and accountability

Operational Control & Communication

  • Ensure accurate production and operational records are maintained
  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments
  • Deliver clear and structured shift handovers
  • Escalate issues promptly and professionally

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve performance, quality and efficiency
  • Support implementation of new processes and standards
  • Drive a culture of ownership and improvement on shift

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Production output vs plan
  • Product quality and defect levels
  • GMP and audit compliance standards
  • Waste and material usage
  • Team performance and engagement

Skills & Experience

  • Experience in food production or manufacturing (bakery preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GMP, hygiene and food safety standards
  • Proven leadership experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage pressure and make decisions in real time
  • Strong organisational and communication skills

Personal Attributes

  • Leads from the front
  • Takes ownership and accountability
  • Hits or Exceeds Targets
  • High standards and attention to detail
  • Resilient and solutions-focused
  • Builds strong, capable teams
