Salary - Salary Plan, 66,000.00 GBP AnnualWe are currently looking for a Project Manager Team Lead to join us on 18 months fixed term contract
In this role you will be reporting to the Head of IT and you will manage a team of project managers and is a member of the wider Programme Delivery team in Technology, encompassing Project Management and Business Analysis.
The Project Management team focuses on delivering a wide range of technology projects from small to medium initiatives through to large scale or complex cross functional projects, working with business departments across the Royal Society of Chemistry and external suppliers. Working closely with the Programme Management Office (PMO), this role ensures effective resource allocation and project prioritisation across the portfolio.
You will be working under broad direction of senior stakeholders and the Technology director. In this role you will take a leading role in ensuring the quality of team output and establishing project milestones, and are responsible for the delivery of all projects delivered by the Project Management team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead, manage and develop a team of Project Managers, including recruitment, performance management, mentoring, training opportunities, and fostering an inclusive culture of continuous improvement and best practice
Work closely with the PMO to optimise team project allocation, resource utilisation, and portfolio prioritisation whilst ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and successful delivery of all assigned projects
Personally manage large-scale, complex technology projects related to Digital Business Transformation, including system implementations and infrastructure projects, choosing appropriate methodologies and providing confident leadership to cross-functional teams with diverse internal stakeholders and suppliers
Maintain accurate project plans using Monday.com, manage project budgets, timescales and quality, and ensure effective risk management, dependency coordination, and change control processes
Apply ADKAR change management methodology across all projects to ensure successful adoption and business outcomes, whilst building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships at all levels Collaborate effectively with cross-functional support teams including UX, Testing, Cyber Security, Business Continuity, Product, Procurement, Legal and Finance to ensure seamless project delivery, regulatory compliance, and successful business outcomes Monitor progress of all projects managed by the team through regular reviews and dashboard reporting, actively identifying risks early and proposing solutions when delivery is at risk
Provide hands-on support to team members when they encounter blockers, offering guidance, escalation support, and acting as escalation point for complex stakeholder issues, budget concerns, or scope changes Ensure consistent application of project management standards and methodologies across the team whilst allowing flexibility for individual working styles and project requirements
Develop deep understanding of Technology department strategic direction and ensure project alignment whilst contributing to business cases and project initiation documents
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Essential
Significant experience of project management in medium to large organisations with previous line management experience
Demonstrable experience in successfully delivering large-scale, complex technology projects with significant business change such as multi-million pound, cross-functional digital transformation projects
Strong experience using Monday.com for project management and working with Programme Management Offices (PMOs) on resource allocation and project prioritisation
Experience applying ADKAR change management methodology in technology project delivery
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with ability to influence decision making in complex situations and build effective relationships across all levels
Broad knowledge of business systems and experience with supplier management and procurement processes
Understanding of agile project management methodologies and when to apply different approaches
Desirable
Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent)
ITIL certification
Experience of managing projects in a Publishing or Membership organisation
Programme management experience
Agile methodology certifications
Prosci ADKAR change management certification
Experience leading remote or hybrid teams
