Project Officer

New Yesterday

Saving lives, saving NHS money, and transforming services for patients – that’s our mission at the Health Innovation East Midlands (HIEM). We are seeking a Project Officer to join our innovation and improvement teams. This role plays a key part in ensuring citizens throughout the East Midlands, and beyond, benefit from our portfolio of innovations.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work across the East Midlands with colleagues from the Health Innovation Network, contributing to national and local programmes aimed at improving clinical outcomes, enhancing patient experiences, reducing care costs, and stimulating economic growth.

This position is a fixed-term contract or secondment until 30.09.2026, subject to funding confirmation, which is reviewed annually. In April 2025, we received increased funding linked to this role, but future funding beyond March 2026 is uncertain.

We currently adopt a hybrid working approach, based at the University of Nottingham Innovation Park. Occasional travel within the East Midlands may be required.

Working alongside the Innovation and Improvement Leads, you will lead the adoption and spread of various innovation or improvement programmes across health and care organisations in the region. You should be a flexible, dynamic team player with excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills to build networks and relationships.

Key to success will be your ability to actively engage stakeholders, clinicians, and health and care professionals, fostering collaboration across organisational boundaries to assess readiness, secure commitment, and develop implementation plans for impactful and sustainable changes. You should enjoy working collaboratively, adapting to local contexts, finding common ground, and seeking solutions.

You must be agile and flexible, capable of managing multiple programmes and adapting to emerging priorities rapidly.

HIEM is one of 15 Health Innovation Networks across England, functioning as the NHS’s innovation arm. We collaborate with partners from all sectors involved in health and care, including NHS, social care, public health, patients, research, third sector, and industry, to identify, test, and disseminate new technologies and practices.

Our objectives include saving NHS money, fostering economic growth, empowering health and care staff, and improving patient lives. We work closely with stakeholders to understand their priorities and provide tailored support. As part of a national network, we share solutions across regions and promote successful programmes on a broader scale.

Our overarching aim is always to make a difference for patients.
