Teaching Assistant - PMLD School (All-Through)

Hours:
Monday - Friday 8.30 - 3.30pm

Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a specialist PMLD school in Whitehaven, supporting children and young people aged 2 to 19 with profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex needs, and associated medical needs.

The school is now seeking a Teaching Assistant / Support Worker / Graduate to join their team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support pupils with complex needs, helping them access education through personalised learning, sensory-based activities, and consistent care within a calm and nurturing environment.

The Role:

Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis

Assisting with personal care, mobility, and medical needs where required

Supporting communication using sensory approaches, PECS, Makaton, or assistive technology

Helping pupils engage in learning and sensory activities

Working closely with teachers, therapists, and specialist support teams

The School:

A nurturing and inclusive specialist PMLD setting

On-site multi-disciplinary team providing targeted therapies and support

Strong emphasis on care, communication, and wellbeing

Supportive and collaborative staff team

The Ideal Candidate:

Experience as a Teaching Assistant, Support Worker, or within care/PMLD settings (desirable but not essential)

A caring, patient, and resilient approach

Willingness to support personal care and complex needs

A strong team player with a commitment to inclusive education
