Quantity Surveyor
Civil Engineering & Groundworks
Are you a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to join a growing civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation for quality and safety?
This regional contractor delivers infrastructure, groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete and multi-discipline civil engineering projects across the UK.
Their portfolio includes highways and drainage infrastructure, reinforced concrete structures, residential regeneration works and water industry schemes supporting clean and wastewater networks. With a strong focus on HSQE and structured commercial processes, the business continues to grow across the North West and beyond.
Due to continued expansion, they are now seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor
to take commercial responsibility for multiple civil engineering and groundworks projects.
The Role
You will take full commercial ownership of projects from award through to final account, supporting operational teams while protecting and maximising commercial performance. Projects will include commercial developments, housing groundworks, hospital externals and water industry schemes delivered within a fast-paced groundworks subcontractor environment.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management
Take full commercial responsibility for projects from award to final account.
Manage budgets, forecasts and CVRs, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Monitor costs, identifying risks and opportunities and implementing commercial strategies.
Ensure contractual entitlements are identified, administered and recovered.
Subcontract & Procurement Management
Prepare, review and negotiate subcontract packages and orders.
Manage subcontractor valuations, variations, payments and final accounts.
Work closely with procurement to secure competitive rates and ensure timely appointments.
Applications, Variations & Change Control
Prepare and submit monthly applications for payment in line with contract requirements.
Identify, price and agree variations and compensation events.
Maintain robust records to support claims and change management.
Ensure all variations are captured and agreed to protect project margins.
Collaboration & Project Support
Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers and Engineers to ensure commercial and operational alignment.
Attend site, progress and commercial review meetings.
Provide practical commercial advice in line with the realities of a groundworks subcontractor environment.
Project Close-Out
Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
Ensure accurate reconciliation of costs and resolution of outstanding matters.
Contribute to lessons learned reviews to drive continuous improvement.
Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering and groundworks.
Strong background working for a groundworks subcontractor.
Good understanding of construction contracts; NEC experience advantageous.
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage risk and maximise value.
Ability to manage multiple projects within a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Degree or HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related discipline.
RICS, CIOB or equivalent accreditation desirable.
