Job Description
Quantity Surveyor
Location: Greater Manchester Job Type: Contract Pay Rate: £250 – £400 per day (dependent on experience and skill level)
Join the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) as a Quantity Surveyor within the Land and Property Team. This role is pivotal in delivering a Strategic Transformation Programme focused on the new build, refurbishment, and decarbonisation of fire stations across Greater Manchester. This programme aims to enhance the operational capacity of the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) while aligning with GMCA’s broader objectives for modernisation, efficiency, and sustainability.
Day-to-Day of the Role:
Provide commercial and financial support to various strategically important projects, overseeing the management of indirect costs. Support Project Managers, senior leadership, and key stakeholders with day-to-day financial construction analysis and RIBA project delivery. Review and challenge externally prepared cost reports, support project valuation drawdowns, and advise on construction progress. Attend site visits and participate in monthly contractor and stakeholder meetings. Lead, develop, and manage programmes of work to support the delivery of GMCA’s strategic priorities, providing high-quality cost analysis and strategic financial construction advice. Manage contract valuations, variations, interim payments, and final account agreements. Engage and manage external professional services on behalf of GMCA.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Qualified Quantity Surveyor with post-qualification experience, ideally gained within residential or commercial mixed-use development. Strong cost management, commercial, and financial analysis skills. Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills. Sound commercial judgement and ability to achieve value for money. Understanding of local government and public-sector delivery environments. Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively.
