I’m currently working with a well-established and highly regarded civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing commercial team in the South West.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business with a strong pipeline of secured work across groundworks, surfacing, and infrastructure projects, delivering schemes for both public and private sector clients.

The Role

Reporting into a Contracts Manager, you’ll take commercial responsibility for a portfolio of projects from pre-contract through to final account. You’ll play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably while maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

* Preparation and submission of valuations and applications for payment

* Monitoring and controlling project costs and budgets

* Managing subcontractor procurement, valuations, and payments

* Measuring works on site and tracking project progress

* Managing variations and change control processes

* Supporting tendering, procurement, and cost planning

* Producing monthly CVRs and commercial reports

* Providing accurate forecasting and reporting to senior management

* Ensuring compliance with NEC / JCT contract requirements

* Working closely with operational teams to drive commercial performance

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

* Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or similar

* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a QS role

* Background in groundworks, surfacing, highways, or infrastructure

* Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts

* Experience with CVRs, cost reporting, and forecasting

* Strong negotiation and communication skills

* Full UK driving licence

Desirable:

* Working towards or chartered status (RICS)

* Experience with systems such as Causeway, Candy, or COINS

* Knowledge of S278 / S38 works

* Awareness of H&S and commercial implications
