Receptionist
1 Days Old
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, friendly and efficient receptionist for Chambers busy offices in Broad Street, Bristol, receiving visitors, handling phone calls, managing our conference rooms and supporting our barristers and staff. This is, in every regard, a front-of-house job, often serving as the first point of contact that a client will have with Chambers. As well as requiring an ability to work with efficiency and attention to detail, sometimes handling concurrent tasks, this is a job that, above all, calls for a welcoming and helpful personality, ensuring that visitors are suitably greeted and feel well cared for during their visit. Our receptionist will have everyday working dealings with everyone in Chambers: our barristers and practice managers and our marketing, finance, housekeeping, administrative and facilities staff, as well as our clients and suppliers. The ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and work collaboratively with others is more important than previous experience as a receptionist.
This is a permanent, full-time role, with standard working hours between 8.40am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The salary is £26,000, depending on experience, for 35 working hours per week. Benefits also include 25 days paid holiday a year, in addition to public holidays, 4% employers pension contribution, a discretionary bonus scheme and private medical insurance.
You will need to be a British or Irish citizen or otherwise have the right to work in the UK and have:
at least five GCSEs (including maths and English) at grade 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent, and two A Level passes or Scottish Advanced Highers or IB/BTEC Level 3 Diploma/T Level, or equivalent;
excellent oral and written communication skills in English (native English speaker or non-native mastery of English (CEFR Level C2));
a good level of user skills in MS Word and Outlook.
To apply for this role , apply before 09:00 on Monday 26 January 2026 , attaching your CV in which you should briefly describe why you are interested in the role, and confirm: your nationality or other right to work in the UK; your educational qualifications; and your employment status and experience to date, including, where appropriate, your current notice period.
Suitable candidates will be invited to attend an initial video interview, provisionally scheduled for 29 or 30 January.
Guildhall Chambers promotes equality of opportunity in the workplace. If you are selected for interview, we will ask if you require any reasonable adjustments to be made in order for you to attend.
