Job Title: Refrigeration Design Engineer\n Location: Leicester / Hybrid \n Role Purpose\n The Refrigeration Design Engineer is responsible for producing high-quality technical designs for commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. The role supports concept development, detailed engineering, equipment selection, and technical documentation to ensure systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirement.\n Key Responsibilities\n Design & Engineering\n\nDevelop refrigeration system designs, including DX, CO?, ammonia, glycol/secondary systems, chillers, and heat pumps.\nPerform refrigeration load calculations, energy modelling, and system performance analysis.\nProduce engineering drawings: P&IDs, schematics, layout plans, equipment schedules.\nPrepare technical documentation for tenders, construction, and commissioning phases.\nSelect and size components (compressors, heat exchangers, valves, pipework, controls).Technical Compliance\n\nEnsure designs comply with relevant standards (EN378, F-Gas, PED, ASHRAE, building regulations).\nCarry out risk assessments and support HAZOP reviews where required.\nMaintain up-to-date knowledge of refrigerants, low-GWP technologies, and regulatory changes.Project Support\n\nWork with project managers, installation teams, and clients to define technical requirements.\nProvide design support throughout installation, commissioning, and handover.\nLiaise with suppliers for equipment specifications, pricing, and technical queries.Required Skills & Experience\n Technical Qualifications\n\nDegree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration Engineering, Building Services, or related field.\nStrong understanding of thermodynamics and refrigeration cycles.Professional Experience\n\n2-5+ years of experience in refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical engineering, or a similar role.\nExperience designing CO?, ammonia, or commercial refrigeration systems (desirable for senior roles).\nProficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit/BIM, SolidWorks, or refrigeration modelling tools (advantage).Salary & Benefits\n To be tailored - may include:\n\nUp to £65,000\n25 days holiday plus bank holidays\nTraining and professional development\nPension, healthcare\nHybrid/remote flexibility \n\nRefrigeration Design Engineer - Leciester \n\nCalibre Search promote equality in the workplace and we welcome applications from all suitably skilled or qualified candidates regardless of their sex, , , /beliefs, or .
