Job Title: 2 Regional Operations Managers
Location: 1 in the North & 1 in the South
Salary: £58,000 per annum
Purpose of the Role
Provide strategic leadership across an allocated group of Non-Retail Operations, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient engineering and maintenance delivery. A key area is the DC network which holds a pivotal role in the M&S supply chain, you will act as a trusted partner to site leadership teams—setting high standards, driving operational resilience, and ensuring maintenance activity supports a fast‑paced, business‑critical environment.
You will lead and develop Managers across your allocated estate, providing direction, coaching, and clarity to ensure consistent execution of planned and reactive maintenance. By embedding City’s SCOPE framework, you will champion safety, proactive communication, ownership, and productivity in every aspect of service delivery.
Through visible leadership, forward‑thinking planning, and data‑driven decision‑making, you will take a proactive approach to risk, performance management, and operational improvement—ensuring engineering teams are engaged, accountable, and capable of delivering reliable, high‑quality outcomes across all Non Retail & DC operations.

Standards
* Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering, technical, or business discipline.
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, particularly within warehouse, logistics, or automated DC environments (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, permit-to-work systems).
* Working knowledge of critical DC assets, such as conveyors, sortation, racking systems, MHE, automation controls, and building infrastructure.
* Proven ability to uphold high compliance standards in a 24/7 operation, ensuring safe systems of work and statutory maintenance are consistently met.
Communication
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, operations leadership, Helpdesk, and external contractors.
* Strong capability to translate technical issues into clear, actionable information for non‑technical stakeholders.
* Able to present maintenance performance data, trends, and risks clearly and persuasively to senior DC leaders.
* Skilled at building trusted relationships within a high‑pressure environment, balancing operational urgency with safety and compliance.
Ownership
* Previous experience leading remote or multi‑shift engineering or maintenance teams within a fast-moving environment such as distribution, warehousing, retail logistics, or manufacturing.
* Demonstrated accountability for service delivery within a large, complex site, ideally with exposure to automated or semi‑automated systems.
* Strong decision‑making skills with the confidence to take ownership of unplanned events, asset failures, or service‑impacting issues.
* Proven ability to drive performance through coaching, development, and consistent leadership behaviours.
Productivity
* Excellent planning and prioritisation skills, with experience managing large maintenance workloads, asset schedules, and reactive demands.
* High proficiency in data extraction and analysis to improve asset reliability, identify trends, and inform investment decisions.
* Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, and optimise resource deployment within a fast‑paced operational setting.
Excellence
* Highly adaptable, able to operate within a dynamic, 24/7 DC environment with constantly shifting operational priorities.
* Willingness to work flexibly as required by the operation and travel between sites when necessary; full UK driving licence essential.
Key Accountabilities
* Deliver all planned, reactive and statutory maintenance services within the non-retail sites to agreed SLAs, ensuring consistent compliance with Health & Safety legislation and City/M&S standards at all times.
* Maintain strong, collaborative relationships with site operations, engineering leadership, automation teams, Helpdesk, and customer stakeholders, acting as a trusted partner in a fast-paced distribution environment.
* Ensure all engineering activities follow safe systems of work, including permits, RAMS, procedures and contractor controls, promoting a culture of safety across all shifts.
* Drive operational excellence by ensuring maintenance schedules, resource planning, and prioritisation meet the operational needs of a high-volume, 24/7 DC’s.
* Oversee the quality and timeliness of all maintenance work, ensuring jobs are completed to the required standard and fully documented.
* Ensure the Mercury CAFM system is used as the single source of truth, with all jobs logged, updated and closed accurately in real time.
* Analyse engineering and asset performance data to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and equipment uptime.
* Develop and implement action plans to address asset performance issues, repeat failures, and maintenance backlogs.
* Support the development and delivery of capital plans, asset lifecycle reviews, and engineering project work within the DC and non-retail sites.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving safety, optimising engineering processes, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
* Conduct regular site visits, audits, and compliance checks, ensuring standards are upheld across all engineering teams and contracted works.
* Act as the primary escalation point for unplanned events, asset breakdowns, or service-impacting issues, ensuring timely communication and resolution.
* Provide clear and timely updates to the customer and City management, highlighting performance, risks, and operational impacts
