The Research Engineer role
The Research Engineer will play a key role in advancing our core technologies through rigorous new product testing, development of novel concepts, and a strong understanding of technology fundamentals. This role combines structured experimentation, engineering design, and hands-on development within a fast-paced industrial R&D environment. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities of the Research Engineer will include:
Test and evaluate new products (3D resins, printers, hardware, and software) to assess performance, robustness, and application suitability
Assist with the design and execute structured experimental programmes to optimise material–process interactions and develop new applications
Prototype, test, and validate novel technologies and product concepts
Investigate and understand the scientific and engineering fundamentals underpinning Photocentric's technologies, translating theory into practical improvements
Contribute to scaling research concepts into manufacturable solutions
Analyse data using a statistical mindset to drive insight, root cause understanding, and process optimisation
Collaborate cross-functionally with chemistry, manufacturing, quality, commercial, and software teams to deliver integrated solutions
Maintain detailed technical documentation, produce reports, and contribute to intellectual property generation, including technical disclosures and patent drafting
Stay informed on relevant advancements in materials science and additive manufacturing
Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications of our Research Engineer:
Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
Hands-on experience in experimental testing, product development, or technical projects (industry, research, or advanced academic work).
Experience designing and executing structured tests and prototypes, with the ability to interpret results critically.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to manage, manipulate, and analyse data effectively.
Familiarity with verification, validation, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
Strong written communication skills, including technical documentation and reporting.
A curious, first-principles mindset with enthusiasm for engineering innovation and 3D printing technology.
