The Role We’re looking for an experienced Risk Assurance Manager to lead and coordinate risk assurance activities across train operations, engineering, and customer safety. This is a key HSQE role focused on critical risk and critical control management, ensuring risks are properly identified, assessed, controlled, and assured across the organisation. You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to embed robust risk management practices, strengthen assurance, and support continuous improvement What You’ll do
Develop and embed a robust Risk Management Strategy aligned with ROGS and rail industry standards Identify, assess, and prioritise operational, engineering, safety, and regulatory risks Lead task-based risk assessments and oversee effective risk mitigation plans Maintain and manage Joint Risk Registers with clients and external stakeholders Conduct assurance activities (audits, inspections, reviews) to verify control effectiveness Apply Critical Risk and Critical Control principles, including bowtie reviews and updates Identify vulnerabilities to controls arising from organisational, procedural, or technological change Support learning reviews following incidents and near misses from a risk perspective Analyse risk data, identify trends, and produce clear reports and recommendations for senior leaders Contribute to wider assurance activities including ISO audits, Fire Risk Assessments, RM3 and IMS audits
What You’ll Need
Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH) or working towards it Strong HSQE experience in a fast-paced operational environment Working knowledge of Critical Risk and Critical Control principles Knowledge of rail, health & safety, and environmental legislation Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to coach, influence, and communicate effectively with stakeholders High level of computer lieteracy
