Scope

This role provides dedicated safety engineering support within an aerospace facility environment, supporting operational and test activities involving high-hazard systems. The position operates in a regulated setting, ensuring compliance with UK legislation, industry best practice, and safety standards, while contributing to major aerospace programmes.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed risk assessments for activities involving hydrogen, nitrogen, and related mechanical, pressurised, and cryogenic systems
  • Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensuring hazards are clearly identified and suitably controlled
  • Identify and manage risks associated with flammable gases, oxygen deficiency hazards (ODH), pressure systems, confined spaces, and stored energy
  • Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety regulations, including DSEAR, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations
  • Capture, review, and embed lessons learned from incidents and near misses, implementing corrective and preventive actions
  • Support or lead incident investigations, applying structured root cause analysis methodologies
  • Collaborate with Operations and Test Engineers to ensure risk assessments remain suitable and sufficient throughout planning and execution phases
  • Provide ongoing safety advice, coaching, and technical support to engineers, contractors, and facility teams
  • Support safety audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and encourage open hazard and near-miss reporting


Required Experience

  • Proven experience working in industrial, aerospace, or other high-hazard environments
  • Demonstrable experience managing safety risks associated with hazardous gases, ideally hydrogen and nitrogen
  • Experience reviewing contractor RAMS and supporting operational safety activities
  • Experience working onsite within multidisciplinary engineering teams


Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of structured risk assessment methodologies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, BowTie)
  • Sound understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver pragmatic safety solutions within operational and test environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability


Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or Science
