Safety Engineer

Overview: We are seeking a Safety Engineers at Senior or Principal level to support a growing portfolio of complex defence programmes. This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of multiple projects, ranging from early concept work through to mature, in-service systems. The successful candidates will be comfortable picking up work independently and delivering safety engineering across the full project lifecycle. There is a significant pipeline of work and long-term demand. ________________________________________ Key Responsibilities • Deliver system and functional safety across a portfolio of concurrent projects. • Develop and maintain Safety Management Plans, safety cases and supporting evidence. • Lead hazard identification and risk analysis activities using recognised techniques. • Manage hazard logs, ALARP justification and residual risk acceptance. • Own safety requirements and ensure full traceability through design, verification and evidence. • Support projects from start-up through to mature lifecycle stages. ________________________________________ Skills: • Strong background in safety engineering within defence or safety-critical environments. • Working across the full engineering lifecycle. • Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously and working autonomously. • Solid understanding of functional safety and daily application of relevant standards. • Knowledge of safety-critical standards such as Def Stan 00-056/00-055, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882 or equivalent. • Engineering discipline background (systems, software or functional disciplines welcomed). • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to influence design decisions. ________________________________________ Desirable • Submarine or wider naval programme Knowledge. • Aerospace background. • Functional Safety certification (e.g. TÜV). • Professional registration (IEng / CEng) or working towards.
