Job Description
Role: Sales Engineering Manager (ideally mechanical bias)
Location: London - on-site
Job Type: Permanent
Salary: £90,000 - £100,000
We’re working with a leading data centre solutions provider delivering full lifecycle services across design, build, and managed services for mission-critical environments.
They operate across mission-critical environments, supporting major data centre operators with full lifecycle delivery, with a strong focus on high-performance M&E infrastructure. The business continues to grow across the UK and Europe, delivering complex, large-scale projects.
This is a mechanically led pre-construction and solutions role focused on shaping and winning data centre projects before they reach site.
You’ll take ownership of the mechanical solution during bids, particularly around cooling and HVAC systems, ensuring designs are technically sound, commercially viable, and aligned with client requirements.
This is not a traditional sales role. You won’t be doing business development. Instead, you’ll be leading the technical solution, working closely with clients, consultants, and internal teams through the bid and early project stages.
What you’ll be doing
Leading the mechanical solution on opportunities, defining cooling strategies and HVAC approaches based on client requirements
Developing detailed solutions across data centre cooling systems, including CRAC, CRAH, DX, chilled water, containment, and airflow management
Supporting system sizing, plant selection, redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N), and overall thermal performance
Coordinating with electrical and wider M&E teams to ensure full system integration
Producing and reviewing technical proposals, mechanical schematics, equipment schedules, and supporting documentation
Leading bid engineering activities including mechanical take-offs, BOQs, labour build-ups, and value engineering
Working closely with design partners to ensure compliance with CIBSE, CDM, and relevant standards
Supporting the commercial structure of bids, ensuring solutions are cost-effective, deliverable, and risk-aware
Presenting mechanical solutions to clients during design reviews and bid interviews
Acting as the technical lead throughout the bid process and into early project phases
Leading the technical handover into delivery teams, ensuring clarity around mechanical design intent and scope
What you’ll need
A strong mechanical background within data centres or mission-critical environments, with a focus on cooling and HVAC systems
Solid experience in pre-construction, estimating, bid engineering, or technical solution roles
Strong understanding of data centre cooling technologies, including chilled water systems, DX cooling, CRAC/CRAH units, containment, and airflow optimisation
Experience with plant sizing, load calculations, and redundancy strategies within critical environments
Good working knowledge of wider M&E systems and how mechanical integrates with electrical infrastructure
Experience producing technical documentation and working with design teams
Commercial awareness, including pricing, value engineering, and risk management
Confidence engaging with clients and presenting technical solutions
You’ll likely come from a background such as:
Mechanical Pre-Construction Manager
Senior Mechanical Estimator (mission-critical / data centres)
Mechanical Design Manager with bid exposure
Mechanical Project Manager with strong pre-construction involvement
A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous, along with familiarity with CIBSE guidelines and CDM regulations.
