School Caretaker

Smile Education are recruiting for an experienced Caretaker to start after Easter for a secondary school in the Telford area. This is a temporary role expected to run through until the end of the academic year. The position is based on a 10:00am–18:00pm shift, working as part of a team.
The Role:
As a Caretaker, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance, safety, and security of the school site. This is a team-based role, working alongside other site staff to ensure the smooth running of the premises, while liaising with the office team and wider site support where required.
Responsibilities:
• Supporting the opening and securing of the school site, ensuring security at all times
• Carrying out general maintenance and basic repairs across the site
• Conducting regular health & safety checks including fire alarms and site inspections
• Supporting with COSHH compliance and risk assessments
• Maintaining accurate records and compliance logs
• Responding proactively to maintenance issues and site needs
• Ensuring the school environment is safe, clean, and fit for purpose
• Liaising with staff, contractors, and external visitors when required
Requirements:
• Previous experience in a caretaker or facilities role (school experience desirable)
• Strong understanding of health & safety procedures
• COSHH and risk assessment training desirable
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Organised, methodical, and proactive approach
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Good communication skills and ability to build rapport with staff and students
• Experience maintaining compliance records and documentation
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to obtain one)
