Blue Skies Education are working in partnership with a nationally recognised and highly ambitious secondary school in West London that is seeking to appoint an outstanding Second in Charge of English from September 2026.

We are looking for a Second in Charge of English who is an excellent classroom practitioner and an aspiring or established middle leader. You will work closely with the Head of English to support the strategic leadership and day-to-day running of a high-performing department known for its intellectual rigour, collaborative culture, and strong outcomes.

The English department is ambitious, scholarly, and committed to delivering a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum. Teaching is underpinned by a focus on oracy, ambitious vocabulary, disciplinary knowledge, and extended writing. You will play a key role in supporting curriculum development, modelling outstanding practice, and contributing to the professional growth of colleagues through coaching and collaboration.

The successful candidate will support the continued drive for excellence across all key stages, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment. You will also contribute to the department’s strong focus on inclusion, ensuring that all students, including those with SEND and those facing disadvantage, are supported to achieve ambitious outcomes.

You will need:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

* Strong subject knowledge across English Language and Literature

* Proven track record of high-quality teaching and student outcomes

* Experience or readiness to take on middle leadership responsibilities

* Ability to support curriculum development and departmental improvement

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills

* A valid DBS or be willing to apply for one (£63)

* Proof of right to work
