We are working with a warm, nurturing, and inclusive special school in Morpeth that provides exceptional support to children aged 2–11 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and complex autism. Every pupil has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and the school is deeply committed to creating a safe, stimulating, and personalised learning environment where each child’s unique strengths and needs are understood and celebrated.
The Role
The school is seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated, and experienced SEN Teacher to join their passionate team. You will plan and deliver highly individualised learning experiences, working closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to support meaningful progress across all developmental areas.

Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with PMLD, SLD, and complex autism.
Use sensory, play-based, and communication-focused teaching methods to promote engagement and independence.
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to deliver holistic support.
Create a nurturing classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and wellbeing.
Maintain accurate records, contribute to EHCP reviews, and set appropriate individual learning targets.
Use a variety of alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) to support expressive and receptive communication.
Lead and support the class team, modelling excellent SEND practice.
Essential Skills & Qualities
The ideal candidate will have:
Strong experience teaching children with PMLD, SLD, and/or complex autism.
A solid understanding of SEND pedagogy, including sensory integration and personalised learning approaches.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with families and professionals.
Creativity, patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs.
Emotional resilience and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
Strong organisational skills and the confidence to lead a class team effectively.
A thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Desirable Qualifications & Training
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Additional training in autism support, sensory approaches, communication systems, or behaviour support.
Experience using Makaton, PECS, or other AAC systems.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
