Position: SEN Teaching Assistant (SEMH) – 1:1 Support
Contract Type: Full-time Temporary Work Start Date: 18/03/2026 Location: Enfield, London, UK Salary: £100 – £120 per day Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates may be offered to candidates with SEMH experience or Team Teach training. Pay is in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR).
About the Role
A specialist SEMH provision in Enfield is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person who requires consistent guidance to engage positively with learning.
The school takes a trauma-informed, relationship-focused approach, supporting pupils who may have experienced significant challenges. You will play a key role in helping the pupil build trust, develop emotional regulation and access learning in a safe, supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Supporting emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning
• Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual plans
• Supporting pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times
• Using de-escalation strategies, including Team Teach where appropriate
• Working closely with teachers, safeguarding leads and pastoral staff
• Maintaining accurate records of behaviour and progress
Requirements
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
• The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills
• A patient and proactive approach
• A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
• The right to work in the UK
Desirable:
• Team Teach training or willingness to undertake training
• Experience in SEMH schools, alternative provision, youth work or mentoring
• Understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches
