About the Role
A specialist secondary setting in Enfield is seeking a confident and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young people who require additional guidance to engage positively with learning.
The school provides a therapeutic, relationship-focused environment where behaviour is understood as communication. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support pupils both in the classroom and during less structured parts of the school day, helping them build emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
• Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
• Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and personalised learning activities
• Promoting emotional regulation, positive communication and social skills
• Implementing restorative and trauma-informed behaviour strategies
• Using Team Teach approaches to safely de-escalate challenging situations
• Supporting pupils during transitions and unstructured times
• Recording incidents and contributing to behaviour and support plans
• Working collaboratively with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals
Requirements
To be eligible for this role and the stated rate of pay, applicants must have:
• Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEMH or behavioural needs
• Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, confident approach
• The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils
• A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
• The right to work in the UK
Desirable:
• Team Teach training or willingness to undertake training
• Experience in a special school, alternative provision or SEMH setting
• Understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches
