Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs in a secondary school setting? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an alternative provision in the Wirral region. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work with secondary students who require behavioural support, personal care, and nurturing assistance.
In this position as a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to develop effective behaviour management strategies and deliver targeted support. The role involves supporting students during classroom activities, PE sessions, and engaging in games and activities that interest the pupils.
The ideal candidate will possess experience (paid or voluntary) working with children or within the care or education sector, with a keen interest in supporting children with special educational needs. Prior experience in alternative provision, pupil referral units, or similar settings is desirable but not essential. You should have a proactive work ethic, patience, and an understanding of SEN, along with the ability to provide comprehensive support to pupils.
This SEMH Teaching Assistant role requires a flexible and student-focused approach, and the successful candidate will be committed to supporting students' personal and educational development. A good understanding of behaviour management strategies and SEN is beneficial. Training and development opportunities are available for the right candidate.
