SEMH/Behavioural Teaching Assistant Location: Wirral Pay: £90 - £110 per day Hours: 6.5 hours per day Start Date: ASAP
Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN)? We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join a school working with secondary students in an alternative provision setting. The SEMH Teaching Assistant will play a vital role in helping students with personal care and behavioural challenges while fostering a nurturing classroom environment.
This teaching assistant role involves close collaboration with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to develop effective behaviour management strategies and deliver targeted support. The successful candidate will be actively involved in engaging students through activities such as PE sessions, games, and other interests to promote positive behaviour and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supporting students with personal care when necessary
* Managing behavioural challenges with patience and understanding
* Assisting in implementing behaviour management strategies
* Providing general support within the classroom for pupils with SEMH needs
* Collaborating with school staff to create personalised learning plans
* Participating in extracurricular activities like PE sessions and games
Candidate Skills and Experience:
* Keen interest in working with children with special educational needs
* Experience (paid or voluntary) working with children in the care/education sector
* Experience in alternative provision or pupil referral units is desirable but not essential
* Open to training and development opportunities
* Proactive work ethic and a patient attitude
* Good understanding of SEN and behavioural support strategies
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
