Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant – Ellesmere Port | TalentBoard Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them thrive in a nurturing school environment? If you have experience in SEND — or transferable skills from care, youth work, mental health, coaching, or support roles — this could be the perfect opportunity to begin or grow your SEN career. What You’ll Be Doing as an SEN TA in Ellesmere Port You’ll work closely with pupils who have a variety of special educational needs, including: Autism and communication differences Learning delays or global developmental delay SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) needs Sensory processing challenges Non-verbal or limited communication Physical or mobility needs requiring adapted support Your day-to-day responsibilities may include: Providing 1:1 personalised support aligned with each pupil’s EHCP Assisting small groups with structured learning tasks or interventions Using visuals, communication tools and supportive teaching strategies Helping pupils regulate emotions using calm, trauma-informed approaches Encouraging engagement in lessons, routines and social activities Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral staff Creating a predictable, nurturing environment where pupils can feel safe, valued and understood This is a deeply rewarding role where you can make a long-lasting difference to the lives of children who truly benefit from consistent, caring support. Who We’re Looking For No previous school-based SEN experience is required — we welcome applicants from: Care or residential support Mental health or wellbeing roles Youth work, mentoring or family support Health and social care Community work, sports coaching or activity leadership Support work in children’s or adult services You’ll be a great fit if you are: Patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient Confident supporting communication, sensory or behavioural needs Reliable, consistent and committed to helping children succeed Able to work independently and as part of a supportive team Willing to learn and develop specialist SEN skills Happy to complete an Enhanced DBS if required Why Work With TalentBoard in Ellesmere Port?
