Job Description
We are collaborating closely with a well-established secondary school whose students require a flexible approach to learning support. Provision may include:
Support delivered onsite within the school environment
Offsite sessions, including tuition at a pupils home
Online sessions where appropriate
The students are of secondary school age and may present with:
Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
Additional learning needs
Complex educational profiles requiring consistency and clear boundaries
Reduced timetables or placement within alternative provision pathways
Your role will involve delivering structured academic sessions while also helping pupils regulate emotions, rebuild confidence, and re-engage with their learning.
Availability RequirementsA minimum commitment of 1015 hours per week
Sessions typically scheduled between 8:30am and 3:30pm
Availability Monday to Friday
In-person delivery is essential (with some scope for online work)
Flexibility is valued, but consistency is essential. Many of these pupils depend heavily on routine and predictable support.
Professional ExpectationsThis position demands a high level of professionalism and accountability. Tutors will be required to:
Accurately record attendance
Track and document academic progress and engagement
Provide clear, structured feedback for school staff and relevant professionals
Maintain strong safeguarding awareness and clear professional boundaries
Your documentation may contribute to wider school strategies and multi-agency decision-making, so precision and reliability are critical.
Ideal Candidates Will Have Experience In:Mainstream or specialist secondary education
Alternative provision settings
Private tuition
Pastoral support, mentoring, or youth-focused roles
You should be able to demonstrate:
Effective behaviour management grounded in empathy
Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or complex needs
Confidence working independently across varied environments
Strong communication and professional reporting skills
Emotional resilience and sound judgement
For some pupils, progress is measured through completed assignments and academic attainment.
For others, progress may mean:
Improved attendance
Emotional regulation within a session
Renewed trust in education
