The Role

Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support primary-aged pupils with high needs Special Educational Needs (SEN) within a supportive and inclusive school environment.

This role involves working closely with pupils who may have complex learning needs, including autism, communication difficulties, social-emotional needs, or additional behavioural support requirements. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop independence, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

You may be required to provide 1:1 support or work with small groups of pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with high-level SEN needs

Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons and activities to ensure accessibility for all pupils

Support pupils with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH needs, or complex learning difficulties

Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

Encourage pupil independence, communication, and social interaction

Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour management strategies

Assist with classroom preparation, resources, and structured learning activities

Monitor and report pupil progress to teachers and SENCO staff

Provide support during transitions, break times, and school activities

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Essential qualities include:

Experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, care, youth work, or similar setting)

A calm, nurturing, and supportive approach

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may need additional emotional support

A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning

Desirable but not essential:

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

Experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, or complex learning needs

Knowledge of behaviour support strategies such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory-based approaches

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
