Specialist Teaching Assistant (SEMH)

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a supportive special school environment. This role is ideal for someone with a strong commitment to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Role Overview
As a Group Guide, your primary focus will be to provide targeted support to a specific group of pupils with complex SEMH needs. You will play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and predictable learning environment that enables pupils to thrive both emotionally and academically.
Key Responsibilities

Provide consistent, high-quality support to a designated group of pupils with complex SEMH needs
*
Support and manage smooth transitions between lessons and activities throughout the school day
*
Establish a secure and trusting environment that helps pupils regulate emotions and develop positive relationships
*
Model calm, reliable adult behaviour while maintaining clear boundaries without inducing shame
*
Build strong, professional relationships with pupils, acting as a key member of staff within the wider team
Essential Criteria
*
Proven experience working with children or young people with complex or additional needs
*
Strong understanding of positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
*
Ability to engage, motivate, and support pupils effectively
*
Excellent communication skills with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers
*
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
*
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards this qualification

Salary & Hours
*
Salary: £22,134 - £24,011 per annum (actual salary) dependant on experience
*
Hours: 33 hours per week, Monday to Friday
*
Working pattern: Term time only + 5 inset days
*
