Qualifications, skills, and all relevant experience needed for this role can be found in the full description below.
I’m currently looking for compassionate, reliable, and committed SEND Teaching Assistants to support a variety of primary schools across the Wakefield area. If you’re driven by a desire to help children overcome barriers, build confidence, and access learning in a way that works for them, this could be an incredibly rewarding next step in your career.
About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with pupils who require additional support due to special educational needs or disabilities. You’ll play a key role in helping children feel understood, valued, and capable - both inside and outside the classroom. Your work will be varied, meaningful, and absolutely vital to each child’s progress.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing tailored one-to-one or small-group support
Supporting children with a range of needs including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social and emotional needs, and learning delays
Helping pupils regulate emotions, develop social skills, and build confidence
Implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
Assisting teachers with adapting lessons and resources to suit individual needs
Using strategies such as visual aids, sensory tools, and alternative communication methods
Helping maintain a calm, structured, and nurturing environment
Supporting children during transitions, playtimes, and daily routines
What I’m Looking For
I would love to speak with you if you:
Have experience working with children with SEND (school-based experience is ideal but not essential)
Are patient, empathetic, and consistent in your approach
Can remain calm under pressure and respond positively to challenges
Understand (or are willing to learn about) different SEND needs and supportive strategies
Communicate clearly and work well within a team
Are passionate about helping every child feel included and capable
What You’ll Receive
When you work with me through Reed Education, you’ll benefit from:
Competitive pay that reflects your experience and skill set
Access to specialist training and development opportunities
Ongoing support from an experienced and approachable team
Flexible working options to suit your lifestyle
Wellbeing support, including access to an Employee Assistance Programme
The opportunity to make a genuine, life-changing difference to children across Wakefield
Why Reed Education?
We pride ourselves on supporting both our schools and our candidates with honesty, professionalism, and a personal touch. I’ll be here to guide you through the process, understand your strengths, and match you with a school where you can truly thrive. xehkeey
