Our newly formed AI & Data team is at the forefront of this work, designing intelligent, data‑driven solutions that make life better for residents and help create a fairer, greener, and healthier Salford. About the Role This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role as technical lead across the full AI/ML lifecycle, from problem definition through to deployment and ongoing model monitoring. You will collaborate with developers, data engineers, product owners and service teams to turn ideas into production‑grade systems. In this role you will also help shape the council’s AI engineering standards and toolchains, ensuring that our AI initiatives are ethical, explainable, secure and scalable. Responsibilities
Lead the full AI/ML lifecycle, from problem definition to deployment and monitoring. Collaborate with developers, data engineers, product owners and service teams to deliver production‑grade systems. Shape council AI engineering standards and toolchains for ethical, explainable, secure and scalable solutions. Mentor colleagues and share best practice. Stay abreast of emerging AI capabilities including large language models, generative AI and multi‑agent systems.
Qualifications
Experienced engineer with technical depth and leadership skills. Demonstrable experience designing and deploying AI/ML systems in the cloud. Strong communication skills with non‑technical colleagues. Ability to thrive in an evolving, values‑driven environment. Expertise in Azure AI tools and infrastructure. Passion for learning and experimenting with other platforms and tools. Commitment to using technology ethically and responsibly.
