Are you an experienced auditor looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and supportive organisation? West Berkshire Council is seeking a Senior Auditor to join our Audit Service, reporting to the Audit Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of undertaking a diverse range of audits across all Council services and functions, in order to provide assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk and control frameworks. About The Role
Conducting audits to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance processes Ensuring audit work is undertaken in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS) in the UK Public Sector Identifying areas for improvement and providing constructive recommendations to service areas Preparation of audit reports and presenting findings to management Supporting the Audit Manager in the delivery of the annual audit plan In addition to the above, you may also be involved in fraud investigations, advisory work, and other tasks as determined by the Audit Manager.
About You
Proven experience in auditing, ideally within a public sector environment Sound knowledge of audit principles, practices, and methodologies Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and identify control weaknesses Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels Self‑motivated and organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Team player with a collaborative approach, as well as the ability to work independently
