Job Description
Piper Maddox are working with a fast-growing renewable energy IPP specialising in grid-scale battery storage projects across the UK and internationally. Their mission is to enable a smarter, cleaner energy future through innovative technology, expert asset management, and high-performing energy storage solutions. They boast an operational portfolio of over 500MW across the UK and plan to expand into Europe.
As a Battery Energy Storage System Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering technical excellence across a growing portfolio of operational and new-build BESS assets. You’ll ensure the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of grid-scale battery systems while supporting project, commercial, and O&M teams.
Key Responsibilities:
· Act as the technical authority for BESS assets, Power Plant Controllers (PPC) and SCADA systems
· Provide day-to-day technical support for operational BESS assets across the portfolio
· Troubleshoot issues with suppliers and O&M partners, driving quick and effective resolutions
· Monitor asset performance and analyse system data to identify trends and improvements
· Conduct fault diagnosis and root cause analysis for asset and grid events
· Assist with supplier engagement, technical specifications, and design reviews
· Support project teams during BESS and SCADA commissioning activities
· Ensure compliance with grid, G99, and safety standards across all projects
Skills:
· Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s desirable)
· Strong technical background in grid-scale BESS, renewable energy, or HV systems
· Experience with electrical design, installation, or commissioning of energy storage or renewable projects.
