Location: Milton Keynes (Office-based with hybrid working available after probation)
Salary: £30,000 £42,000 DOE

The opportunity Were supporting a well-established and busy accountancy practice in Milton Keynes to hire a capable Bookkeeper who enjoys owning the day-to-day and keeping clients organised, compliant, and up to date.

This is a role for someone who wants variety, responsibility, and the chance to build long-term relationships with a portfolio of SMEs, contractors, and owner-managed businesses. Youll be trusted to run bookkeeping to trial balance, manage VAT/CIS, and liaise confidently with HMRC where needed.

Key responsibilities Bookkeeping using Cloud Software (and Excel where required) to trial balance
Preparing and submitting VAT returns (including using IRIS where applicable)
CIS preparation and submissions for contractors/subcontractors
PAYE/VAT/CIS registrations with HMRC
Liaising with HMRC on behalf of clients to resolve queries efficiently
Supporting wider accounts team with reconciliations and year-end preparation where needed
Maintaining accurate records and ensuring deadlines are consistently met
Management Accounts
What were looking for Essential:
Proven practice-based bookkeeping experience (or similar multi-client environment)
Confident working to trial balance
Solid understanding of VAT returns and compliance
Experience with CIS (prep/submissions)
Comfortable dealing with HMRC and handling client queries professionally
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Desirable:
Exposure to IRIS, Sage 50, QuickBooks, Capium or similar systems
Payroll exposure (e.g., BrightPay/Payroll Manager)
AAT / relevant accounting qualification (or qualified-by-experience)
