Overview


Our client, a specialist construction consultancy with a Bristol office serving the South West, is recruiting a Senior Building Surveyor. This hands‑on role combines site inspections of high‑ and low‑rise residential buildings, detailed report writing and management of subsequent remediation and contract administration. The post involves regular client engagement with freeholders, building managers, developers, public sector bodies and housing associations, and requires frequent site travel across the region.


Key Responsibilities


  • Building Inspections — Carry out detailed surveys of high‑rise and low‑rise residential buildings, identify and document defects and structural issues.
  • Defect Analysis and Remedial Solutions — Produce clear, technically robust reports that explain defects and recommend practical remediation options.
  • Report Writing and Contract Administration — Prepare high‑quality reports, manage contract administration for remediation works and support resident liaison processes.
  • Project Management — Manage workload to meet fee targets, prioritise multiple projects, and support delivery of new build D&B projects where required.
  • Tendering and Procurement Support — Assist with tender processes, procurement of consultants and contractors, and preparation of contract documentation.
  • Client Communication — Maintain professional client relationships, explain complex technical issues clearly, and respond to client enquiries.
  • Team and Meeting Support — Take minutes, support project teams, and contribute to continuous improvement of templates and procedures.
  • Mobility — Travel regularly to sites; a valid UK driving licence is required.


Ideal Candidate Profile


  • Qualifications — Bachelor’s degree in Building Surveying or a construction‑related discipline; relevant professional membership (for example RICS) is desirable.
  • Technical Expertise — Strong building pathology experience and comprehensive knowledge of Building Regulations and Fire Safety legislation in England.
  • Experience — Proven experience inspecting residential buildings, particularly high‑rise stock, and producing remedial specifications and contract administration.
  • Skills — Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to produce clear, concise reports; strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Desirable — Experience with hospitals or schools inspections, Employers Agent/PCSA procurement exposure and project management of new build D&B projects.
  • Practical Requirements — Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the South West.
