Job Description

Director-Track Opportunity | Commercial & Residential Building Surveying

An independent building consultancy is seeking an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) to join its expanding team delivering commercial and residential building surveying services across the South West of England.

This is a senior, client-facing role suited to a surveyor who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial mindset. The position offers a clear pathway toward senior leadership and director-level responsibility for the right individual.

The Role

You will deliver a wide range of commercial and residential building surveying services, working with a varied client base including developers, investors, landlords, commercial occupiers, and private homeowners.

The role will involve managing instructions from initial enquiry through to final report delivery, providing clear professional advice and maintaining strong client relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking commercial and residential building surveys

  • Delivering RICS Level 2 and Level 3 residential surveys

  • Conducting commercial building surveys and defect diagnosis

  • Providing dilapidations advice and inspections

  • Managing projects from instruction through to completion

  • Preparing detailed technical reports and professional advice

  • Completing measured surveys and producing CAD drawings

  • Supporting planning and development-related work and feasibility input

  • Liaising with clients, consultants, and contractors throughout projects

This is a hybrid role, combining site inspections, home working, and collaboration with the wider consultancy team.

Client Engagement & Business Development

You will play an important role in building long-term client relationships and contributing to the growth of the consultancy.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing relationships with commercial and residential clients

  • Contributing to fee proposals and converting enquiries into instructions

  • Generating repeat business and new opportunities

  • Supporting the continued development of commercial and residential surveying services

This role suits a surveyor who understands that modern building surveying is both a professional and commercial discipline.

Skills & Experience
  • MRICS Chartered Building Surveyor

  • Minimum 5 years professional building surveying experience

  • Proven experience across commercial and residential property

  • Strong experience delivering commercial building surveys and defect analysis

  • Experience undertaking RICS Level 2 and Level 3 surveys

  • Proficiency in CAD and measured surveys

  • Good understanding of planning and development processes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organisation and ability to work independently

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a high-volume surveying role. You will have autonomy, influence, and visibility within the business from day one.

You will be trusted to manage your own projects, engage directly with clients, and contribute to the strategic growth of the business. There is genuine scope to help develop specialist service lines and expand both commercial and residential workstreams.

Progression & Director Pathway

This role is designed with long-term progression in mind. The successful candidate will have a clear pathway to senior leadership and director-level responsibility, with the opportunity to influence business strategy, grow fee income, and contribute to the future direction of the practice.

Whats on Offer
  • £60,000 £85,000 salary depending on experience

  • Uncapped performance-related bonus

  • Hybrid working and flexible structure

  • Clear pathway to senior and director-level roles

  • Opportunity to play a key role in a growing independent consultancy
