Location: South Yorkshire

Salary: Up to £50,000

Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be supporting a leading UK-based heavy engineering manufacturer in the search for a commercially astute Senior Buyer.


Our client is a well-established and highly respected engineering organisation that has experienced significant investment and sustained growth in recent years, successfully doubling turnover and continuing on an ambitious growth trajectory. To support this expansion, they are strengthening their Supply Chain function with the appointment of an experienced procurement professional.


The Opportunity

This is a pivotal role within the Supply Chain & Logistics team, responsible for sourcing and securing high-quality raw materials critical to heavy engineering and manufacturing operations — including metal billets, ingots and bar stock.

You will play a key role in ensuring continuity of supply, commercial competitiveness and full compliance with technical and quality standards, working cross-functionally with Commercial, Quality, Engineering, Inventory and Planning teams to maintain optimal operational performance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for engineering-grade metals
  • Evaluate, audit and develop supplier relationships
  • Monitor global metal markets to ensure competitive pricing and reliable supply
  • Lead negotiations on pricing, payment terms and long-term agreements
  • Ensure contracts meet technical, certification and compliance requirements
  • Raise and manage purchase orders, maintaining accurate procurement records
  • Work closely with Quality and Production teams to ensure material compliance
  • Review mill certifications and material test reports (MTRs)
  • Mitigate supply chain risks and support efficient inbound logistics
  • Monitor KPIs and analyse cost drivers
  • Support budgeting processes and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Maintain supplier documentation and ensure ethical sourcing standards
  • Uphold industry regulations and internal procurement policies


About You

Essential Experience

  • Proven procurement experience within metals, machining or heavy engineering/manufacturing environments
  • Strong understanding of steel grades, alloys and material specifications
  • Demonstrable success in supplier negotiation and relationship management
  • Strong analytical and cost-modelling capability
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and material specifications
  • ERP system experience and confident IT skills
