A major UK consultancy with a strong Yorkshire presence is looking for a Senior CDM Principal Designer to take on a leadership role within its Leeds office. This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact position where you will guide a growing team, shape best practice and deliver some of the most exciting, complex and large-scale projects across the region. Projects span commercial developments, high-density residential, modern education campuses, specialist healthcare facilities, retail redevelopments, challenging refurbishments, major new builds, industrial and warehouse schemes, MOD estates, government work and council-led regeneration. Leeds continues to be one of the most active construction hubs in the UK, and this team sits right at the centre of it.

The Opportunity

As a Senior CDM Principal Designer, you will take responsibility not only for delivering high-quality CDM leadership but also for mentoring, supporting and developing a team of CDM and Principal Designer professionals. You will be a visible figure across projects, offering early design input, guiding risk management and setting the standards that the team follows.

Hybrid working gives you the balance you need, while still allowing you to be hands-on and present as a team leader in the Leeds office.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Lead the CDM function as the Senior CDM Principal Designer across commercial, residential, education, healthcare, retail, refurbishment, new build, warehouse, MOD, government and council schemes.

Provide strategic design risk oversight from project inception through delivery, ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations.

Manage, mentor and develop a team of Principal Designers and CDM professionals, supporting growth and encouraging high performance.

Lead design risk workshops and reviews, influencing safe and innovative design solutions across multiple sectors.

Build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders, representing the Leeds office with professionalism and technical confidence.

Prepare high-quality CDM documentation, including PCI, risk registers and technical reports.

Collaborate closely with the senior leadership team to support new business activity, attend client meetings, contribute to tenders and help strengthen repeat client relationships.

Identify opportunities to expand service offerings and improve internal processes.

Represent the consultancy at industry events and regional forums to raise the profile of the Leeds team.
