Job Description
Role: Senior Combat Systems Engineer\n\nDuation: 6 months\n\nLocation: Portsmouth (full-time on-site)\n\nRate: Negotiable (Umbrella only)\n\nInside IR35\n\nSC/DV clearance required\n\nThe role\n\nSenior Combat System Engineer required to support a naval programme on a 6‑month SC/DV‑cleared contract. You will help deliver operationally effective naval combat systems, ensuring complex maritime systems are safely and fully integrated.\n\nWorking within a team of Combat System Engineers, you will plan and deliver integration, test, evaluation and acceptance activities, support the emerging Design Authority, and contribute to sea trials and safety evidence for system integration.\n\nKey responsibilities\n\nLead and direct Combat System Engineers on technical matters for naval development.\n\nEngage with customers, stakeholders and suppliers to understand and refine requirements.\n\nProduce test plans, execute trials and complete post‑trial analysis and reporting.\n\nGenerate technical documentation, including Supporting Evidence for Certificates of Safe Integration.\n\nProvide clear progress reports to senior technical and project stakeholders.\n\nConduct and support sea trials on Royal Navy ships.\n\nEssential experience\n\nStrong background in maritime combat systems and system‑of‑systems technology.\n\nProven experience in integration, testing, evaluation and acceptance of complex systems.\n\nDemonstrated ability to lead and mentor junior engineers in technical tasks.\n\nExperience producing technical artefacts for operational and safety approvals.\n\nAwareness of Test & Evaluation and/or Integration processes and standards.\n\nComfortable working with mixed military and civilian teams in a collaborative environment.\n\nEssential qualifications\n\nHonours degree in Engineering, Physics or a closely related discipline.\n\nChartered Engineer (CEng) status, or clear commitment to working towards it.\n\nHNC/HND with strong, relevant experience will be considered.\n\nIf you meet the above and hold current SC or DV clearance (or are eligible), please get in touch for further details about rates, location and start dates
