Job Description
Senior EICA Design Engineer - Water\n\nLocation: Manchester\n\nContract Type: Permanent\n\nWorking Model: Manchester-based role with occasional site visits; hybrid\n\nAbout the Role\n\nJoin an established engineering design consultancy delivering civil, electrical, instrumentation, control, and multidisciplinary engineering services across the UK utilities and water sector. The Manchester design office is engaged in a diverse portfolio of clean water, wastewater, treatment, and pumping projects. This opportunity allows you to take ownership of EICA design deliverables, support project delivery, and play a key role in technical decision-making across a wide range of schemes.\n\nRole Overview\n\n- Lead the approval of EICA design deliverables across water-sector projects.\n\n- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, support site activities, and ensure outputs meet safety, quality, and technical standards following established design processes.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n- Take ownership of design deliverables, overseeing, reviewing, and approving documentation across all lifecycle stages.\n\n- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and sub-contractors to ensure clarity on scope and delivery.\n\n- Develop electrical load schedules and specify MCCs, telemetry, and instrumentation systems.\n\n- Prepare scopes of work, support technical bid evaluations, and oversee sub-contract design packages.\n\n- Provide technical input during site surveys, installation, and commissioning activities.\n\n- Ensure all work aligns with relevant UK and international standards.\n\n- Promote safety, sustainability, and best practices in all design activities.\n\n- Support multidisciplinary collaboration and maintain effective communication channels.\n\nRequired Qualifications & Experience\n\n- Degree or advanced apprenticeship in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering.\n\n- Chartered Engineer or actively working toward chartership with a relevant institution.\n\n- Proven background in EICA design for water or wastewater projects.\n\n- Experience reviewing and approving construction and installation documentation.\n\n- Working knowledge of UK regulations including ATEX, CE/UKCA, EMC, and PED.\n\n- Strong communication skills, with a collaborative, proactive, and organised approach.\n\nKey Skills\n\nTechnical competence, problem-solving abilities, leadership, communication, attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to delivering safe and compliant designs
