Job Description
Equans is looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer (Decarbonisation & Energy Solutions) to join our team in Manchester. This is a full-time role. On offer is a competitive salary, and benefits package.\n\nThe Senior Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the delivery of high-quality electrical designs for decarbonisation and sustainable retrofit projects.
Focus on low-carbon systems such as solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and building power infrastructure. Provide technical leadership, design coordination, and mentoring within a multidisciplinary team.\n\nWhat will you deliver? \n\nElectrical Design & Engineering\n\nStrong technical grounding in LV electrical design to integrate low-carbon energy solutions, such as power distribution, solar PV, battery storage, LED lighting, and smart controls for the integration of heat pumps, and other energy-efficiency measures typical of sustainable retrofit into commercial, public-sector and mixed-use buildings .\nProven experience in solar PV design, including ground-mounted systems and building-integrated solutions (BIPV). \nAbility to integrate PV systems with electrical infrastructure and low-carbon technologies for retrofit and new-build projects.\nSound understanding of mechanical building services to enable effective coordination.\nCompetent in detailed design from RIBA Stage 2 to 5, including calculations, SLDs, schematics, schedules and technical reports.\nExperience with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), feasibility through to applications.\nProficient in AutoCAD and a good working knowledge of BIM workflows (Revit desirable).\nAbility to lead electrical design packages on multi-disciplinary projects.\nAbility to check, QA, and sign off electrical designs (BS 7671, IET Wiring Regs, UK Building Regs). \n\nDesign Management and Team Development\n\nUndertake design and design coordination and management, integrating mechanical, and energy systems for seamless project execution.\nProduce and develop technical reports, drawings, and specifications.\nComfortable leading client and contractor discussions, including technical presentations.\nExperienced in Design & Build and Traditional procurement routes.\nAble to mentor junior engineers and enhance team capability.\nStrong organisational skills, able to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.\nCommercial awareness to support bids, scopes of work and proposals.\nAssist in identifying design risks and contribute to risk mitigation strategies and manage the design risk registers. \n\n What can we offer you?On offer is a competitive salary, and benefit package, which includes;\n\n25 days annual leave (+ public holidays)\nLife Cover equivalent to 2 times annual salary\nEmployee discount shopping schemes on major brands and retailers\nGym membership discounts \nCycle to work scheme \nHoliday purchase scheme\n2 corporate social responsibility days per year\nBroad range of learning opportunities, such as professional qualifications, collective/individual training, and personalized support programmes\nAttractive Employee Referral Rewards Scheme\nAccess to our growing employee networks \n24/7 Employee Assistance Program and access to mental wellbeing app Who are you?Qualifications: \n\nDegree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (BEng or equivalent).\nChartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards.\nExperience in design and design management, risk assessment, and project delivery of sustainable retrofit, low-carbon technologies, and energy efficiency projects.\nExperience working across full RIBA stages on multidisciplinary teams.\nExperience in public sector or funding-driven decarbonisation projects such as PSDS and WH/ SHDF.\nProven expertise in electrical building services design, with a strong portfolio of projects or equivalent practical experience. \n\nExperience: \n\nStrong expertise in electrical systems design, retrofit strategies, and energy optimisation such as power systems, solar PV, battery storage, lighting systems, and smart controls.\nStrong understanding of BS 7671, IET Wiring Regs, CIBSE, PAS 2035, MCS, Building Safety Act, and UK building regulations as relevant.\nStrong presentation and communications skills, both verbal and written.\nWorking knowledge of BIM and CAD software, ensuring seamless design coordination/ collaboration. \n\nWho are we?\n\nIn the UK & Ireland, Equans is a provider of sustainable facilities management and regeneration, and cutting-edge energy and digital services.
