Power the Future of Buildings – Be the Expert Behind the Systems!\n\nSenior Electrical Engineer Contract Role!\n\n Location: Birmingham\n Office: B3\n Start Date: January 2026 – 6 months ongoing \n ⏱ Hours: 37.5 hours per week\n IR35 Status: Inside IR35\n\nAbout the Role\n\nA leading building design practice is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team on a contract basis. This Senior Electrical Engineer role will support project delivery across the Midlands, Southwest, and Wales, working across a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, transportation, defence, and energy.\n\nAs a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will take a key role in delivering high-quality electrical building services designs while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and supporting junior engineers.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAct as a Senior Electrical Engineer responsible for understanding project briefs and delivering compliant designs\nDesign and specify electrical building services systems including power, lighting, life safety, telecoms, security, access control, lifts, and lightning protection\nProduce and review detailed electrical calculations using Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, Excel, and in-house tools\nPrepare technical specifications using NBS\nCollaborate with international engineering teams where appropriate\nWork closely with BIM teams using Autodesk Revit\nUndertake site surveys, inspections, and monitor site works\nProduce technical reports and maintain project documentation\nManage workload, budgets, and elements of project delivery\nReview progress and report any changes in scope\nSupport the development and mentoring of junior engineers\nRequirements\n\nDegree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline\nChartered Engineer (CIBSE or IET )\nProven experience working as a Senior Electrical Engineer within a design consultancy or contractor design environment\nStrong knowledge of electrical building services standards and regulations\nProficient in Amtech/ProDesign, Dialux/Relux, NBS, and Microsoft Office\nUnderstanding of energy reduction strategies, decarbonisation, and building performance\nStrong report writing, communication, and client-facing skills\nAbility to work independently, make technical decisions, and manage time and budgets effectively\nIf you are interested in this role, apply today!\n\nFirst Company information\n\nAt First Recruitment Group we understand just how important it is to secure the right people.
