Job Description
Senior Engineer – Highways & Development Control (Contract)
We’re recruiting a Senior Engineer (Highways & Development Control) for a hybrid contract role in London, starting January 2026.
This role sits within a Highways Development Control team and would suit someone with strong local authority experience who is confident acting as a statutory consultee on planning applications.
Key responsibilities:
Reviewing and responding to planning applications with transport impact
Acting as statutory consultee for highways and transport matters
Authorising and monitoring highway works, including S278 / S38 agreements
Supporting construction management plans, travel plans, and highways adoption
Deputising for senior management when required
Working closely with planners, developers, and internal stakeholders
Delivering a high standard of customer and stakeholder engagement
Key requirements:
Proven experience in Highways Development Control within a UK local authority
Strong knowledge of S278 / S38, planning processes, and highways adoption
Ability to manage multiple applications and stakeholder relationships
Full UK driving licence
Eligible to work in the UK
Willing to undergo DBS (or already hold one)

Duration: 13 weeks
Hours: 36 per week
IR35: Inside
