About the Opportunity
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established civil engineering contractor based on the Wirral, known for delivering high-quality infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join their team, working primarily on-site at a major long-term project in Cheshire.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a respected contractor and play a key role in the successful delivery of complex civil engineering works.
The Role
As a Senior Engineer, you will report directly to the Project Manager and take responsibility for coordinating site activities, managing subcontractors, and overseeing the internal workforce. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with technical specifications and programme requirements.
Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day site operations to ensure smooth and efficient project delivery
  • Support the Project Manager with programming, resource allocation, and coordination
  • Prepare and review RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and ITPs (Inspection and Test Plans)
  • Carry out and manage setting out activities in accordance with drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors to maintain quality, safety, and progress
  • Ensure compliance with NEC contract conditions and project governance requirements
  • Maintain accurate site records and documentation for reporting and audit purposes
  • Monitor project timelines and contribute to planning, scheduling, and forecasting
Key Requirements
  • Proven experience in a Senior Engineer or similar role within Tier 1 or Tier 2 civil engineering contractors
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
  • Proficiency in setting out and use of relevant surveying equipment and software
  • Experience preparing and managing RAMS and ITPs
  • Demonstrable experience in programme and planning management
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as ICE (preferred)
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach
  • Valid CSCS card and full UK driving licence
