Job Description
Senior Estimator\n\nGalldris Group\n\nLocation: Birmingham\n\nAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Estimator to join our Midlands team. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for compiling competitive Civils tenders within the business and they reflect our win themes and the client requirements in terms of content, format and timescales and produce accurate, competitive, error free, thorough, well researched tenders in a standard format, whilst maintaining estimating files and records as required complying with Governance and Audit requirements.\n\nYou will ideally have a Civil Engineering background with proven experience delivering civils projects across both pre‑construction and construction phases. A strong technical foundation in drainage, groundworks, highways, and reinforced concrete (RC) structures is essential.\n\nKey Accountabilities to include, but not limited to:\n\n * Ensure all Tender information is logged and maintained into the system, has a Tender Number and has been processed by the Estimating Administrator.
Dissemination of tender documentation to commercial, operational, procurement, finance, insurance and legal functions as required\n\n * Support and answer questions at presentations at client tender briefings, site visits and interviews. Raising formal tender queries, disseminating client responses to tender queries and disseminating client revisions to tender documents\n\n * Encourage Business-to-Business meetings with suppliers. Prepare and manage subcontract and supplier enquiries as required to support submission of tenders and undertake analysis\n\n * Where required, undertake measurement and quantification of tender drawings and produce a Bill of Quantities in recognised method of measurement appropriate to the work type being tendered.
OR where take-off being undertaken externally then liaise with relevant parties to ensure this is done in a timely manner. Review and challenge take off for completeness produced by others\n\n * Update all data utilised in tender build up are current and relevant (e.g. Labour, Plant, Materials and Preliminaries rates applicable to delivery period)\n\n * Check any received quotations from prospective suppliers / subcontracts are compliant with client / tender requirements (validity, approvals, technical requirements etc)\n\n * Investigate Value Engineering or Alternative tender submissions; develop and price any worthy of consideration for our submission\n\n * Liaise and challenge the planner to agree programme outputs (and overall programme) & identify and include appropriate method related temporary works allowance(s)\n\n * Present the estimate at tender settlement then capture and incorporate settlement adjustments.
Compliance with the Bid Governance process, including producing bid governance data (Estimating Software outputs, comparisons of subbies etc) and complete templates as required for bid governance reviews and obtain approval to submit tender\n\n * Produce final submission estimate which complies with Employers format\n\n * Ensuring hand over from estimating to commercial, operational, procurement, finance functions for all contract wins through the contract hand over and start up process\n\n * Where required, input into production of tender stage risk & opportunity register\n\n * Prepare and submit responses to post-tender estimating questions, collating responses from within the team\n\n * Arrange internal launch meeting and settlement meeting on smaller schemes led by Estimator\n\n * Liaise with our designers/temp works designers (or assist our design manager) in producing a Design for estimation purposes\n\nExperience/Knowledge:\n\n * Experience in a similar role\n\n * Understanding of Risk & Opportunity analysis\n\n * Good financial acumen with an ability to analyse complex data and documentation accurately\n\nSkills:\n\n * IT skills of high standard\n\n * Must be Candy or Conquest user with high level of experience\n\n * Excellent communication skills both verbal and written\n\n * Ability to deal with clients & internal staff\n\n * Ability to work on own initiative\n\n * Meticulous, organised, pro-active with positive attitude and willing to learn\n\n * Self-motivated and enthusiastic\n\n * Excellent organisational and planning skills\n\n * Constantly striving to improve and exceed expectations ensuring safety and quality are never compromised\n\nQualifications:\n\n * Educated to degree level or equivalent desirable but not essential\n\n * A-level, HND (or similar) in Maths, Physics or Engineering– desirable\n\n * Member of professional organisation - desirable\n\nInterested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.\n\nShould you feel you have what it takes to be successful in this role, then we would love to hear from you.\n\nEmployee referral scheme - refer a friend or family member to work for Galldris.\n\nGalldris is an Equal Opportunities employer and does not discriminate against any protected characteristic.\n\nPlease note: We are not using recruitment agencies for this role.
