Senior Financial Accountant

Job Summary We're looking for a skilled Senior Financial Accountant to play a key role in delivering high-quality financial reporting, strengthening governance, and shaping continuous improvement across our finance function. You'll act as a trusted technical expert, working closely with stakeholders across the business to uphold strong financial controls and drive best practice. Remote working is offered but you will need to be able to travel to the Reading office at least 3 days per month. Responsibilities
Leading the preparation, review and consolidation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial results. Supporting month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and risks are managed early. Maintaining balance sheet integrity through robust reconciliation oversight and challenge. Updating internal and external accounting policies and ensuring SOPs remain accurate and embedded across teams. Acting as the primary contact for external auditors and coordinating internal audit activity. Translating audit recommendations into meaningful process improvements. Providing technical accounting expertise, including stock accounting and revenue recognition guidance. Building strong relationships across finance, offering specialist advice, support and training. Driving improvements to financial processes, controls, and reporting quality. Supporting finance system enhancements and transformation projects. Preparing financial analysis, policy updates and technical briefings for senior stakeholders. Managing and developing direct reports while supporting the wider finance team as needed.
Qualifications
ACCA or ACA qualified with proven post‑qualification experience. Strong background in financial and technical accounting. Ability to interpret and apply complex accounting requirements with confidence. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Clear, influential communicator able to support and guide non‑finance stakeholders. A collaborative team player who builds financial resilience through knowledge‑sharing and training. Demonstrated ability to enhance processes, strengthen controls and drive continuous improvement.
