Senior Founding Backend Engineer / Platform Lead


Remote - UK only

Salary Up to £75,000 + Equity + Bonus + Exceptional Benefits



Most startups say they want a “Backend Engineer.”

What they actually need… is someone who can own the entire backend platform.


This is one of those roles.


I’m working with Mia Wealth - an ambitious early-stage fintech building the UK’s next-generation family wealth and gifting app for children.


Their mission is simple but powerful:

Help families turn gifts into long-term wealth instead of more toys.


Think Junior ISAs, investing for birthdays, and helping the next generation build financial confidence from day one.


It’s a genuine problem worth solving.

And they need the right person to help build it.



The Role


This is not a “safe” backend role.

You won’t be handed neat Jira tickets.


You’ll be the person responsible for building, owning, and improving the backend platform end-to-end.


From APIs and infrastructure to payments, KYC, compliance tooling, operational workflows, and production support.


You’ll help shape how the entire platform works.



You’ll own:


– Backend architecture (Node.js / TypeScript / PostgreSQL)

– Production-grade APIs and platform reliability

– Fintech integrations (TrueLayer, Stripe, Yapily, Seccl, VouchSafe etc.)

– Cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred)

– Internal operational tools and automation

– Security, compliance, and FCA/GDPR readiness

– Diagnosing real production issues when things break (because they will)


This is a role for someone who likes solving real problems, not hiding behind job titles.



What We’re Looking For


You’ll likely have:

– Strong backend engineering experience (Node.js / TypeScript)

– PostgreSQL production experience

– Strong API design and architecture skills

– Cloud infrastructure experience (GCP, AWS or similar)

– FinTech or regulated environment experience

– Payments / Open Banking integrations experience

– Strong debugging and systems thinking

– Startup mindset and genuine ownership mentality



Bonus points for:


– KYC / identity verification systems

– Investment platforms

– Mobile product environments

– CI/CD and infrastructure as code
