A well-established UK engineering and environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Hydrologist to join its expanding Water team. This is a technically-focused role offering the opportunity to take responsibility for delivering high-quality hydrological input on a variety of development projects, while supporting the growth and development of junior colleagues. Flexible working arrangements are available, although occasional presence in one of the regional offices is expected.
\n
The consultancy has a long-standing reputation for delivering major development projects across the UK, covering the full project lifecycle from site evaluation and planning support through detailed design, statutory approvals, and infrastructure delivery. The Senior Hydrologist will be a key part of this capability, contributing to project delivery, technical quality, and team knowledge sharing.
\n
The role involves developing Flood Risk Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, and outline drainage strategies. You will take ownership of hydrological and hydraulic calculations, project documentation, and reporting, ensuring work is delivered to agreed timescales and budgets. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to tenders, client submissions, and internal technical development, while keeping up to date with relevant legislation, design codes, and best practice. Mentoring and guiding junior team members forms an important part of the role, as does active participation in CPD and knowledge sharing initiatives.
\n
Applicants should be a member, or working towards membership, of a relevant professional body such as CIWEM, and bring strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise work effectively. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams are essential. Candidates should have experience using FEH, WINFAP, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, HEC-RAS, and related hydrological modelling tools, as well as familiarity with AutoCAD, WinDES, and standard Microsoft applications. Awareness of ground modelling software such as PDS is advantageous.
\n
This is an excellent opportunity for a hydrologist seeking meaningful technical responsibility, exposure to major projects across the UK, and the chance to grow within a supportive and technically-driven consultancy.
