Senior Machine Learning Engineer


The Role

We’re hiring a Senior or Staff ML Research Engineer to join a high growth AI company building advanced proprietary language models that power real world products at scale.

This business has strong product market fit and significant enterprise adoption. A large proportion of platform traffic runs through internally developed models, making this team central to company performance.


You’ll join a small, high calibre Research team responsible for designing, fine tuning and deploying the core models that underpin the product. This is applied, product focused AI research rather than an academic lab environment.


This role is London based and primarily office led.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement state of the art instruction tuning and information retrieval methods
  • Fine tune and deploy large open source LLMs in production
  • Apply reinforcement learning approaches including SFT, DPO, PPO and GRPO
  • Develop models that outperform closed source alternatives
  • Break down ambiguous research ideas into structured technical milestones
  • Build scalable systems used by millions of end users
  • Contribute to evaluation frameworks and model deployment pipelines
  • For one hire, apply voice and speech expertise to model development


Required Skills and Experience

  • 5 to 7+ years in AI / ML engineering or applied research
  • Exceptional candidates with 3+ years considered
  • Proven experience fine tuning and deploying LLMs in production
  • Strong hands on reinforcement learning experience
  • Familiarity with SFT, DPO, PPO and GRPO
  • Experience working with large open source language models such as Llama
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and ability to write clean, production ready ML code
  • Experience generating, curating or synthesising training data
  • Experience designing evaluations and deploying models at scale
  • Multimodal exposure is beneficial but not essential. The core focus is text based language models.
  • This role will suit someone motivated by improving product performance rather than pursuing purely academic research.
