Role Summary

EY is seeking a technically strong Senior Manager to join our growing shipping tax team within the ITTS practice. The UK is a leading shipping centre, and the maritime industry is a critical economic sector. This market-facing, technically focused role applies international tax principles and specialist shipping tax provisions—including tonnage tax, tax treaty rules, and Pillar 2—to shipping transactions. You will shape the firm’s technical views, support our international shipping tax network, and provide high‑value advisory input to shipping clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise shipping clients on international tax aspects of transactions and controversies, including tonnage tax, tax treaty provisions, and Pillar 2 rules.
  • Identify new client opportunities and collaborate with other teams to develop new services for shipping companies.
  • Lead client accounts in the sector and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Attend external conferences to broaden knowledge and develop new work.
  • Develop technical material for EY’s international shipping tax network and help coordinate annual shipping tax conferences attended by leading shipping companies worldwide.
  • Serve as a sector expert in shipping industry tax issues.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • ACA, CTA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong technical background in international tax, with experience in tax treaty interpretation, general international tax, and Pillar 2.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply tax law to real‑world client situations, especially for multinational groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of articulating complex technical positions clearly and persuasively.
  • Experience advising shipping companies is desirable but not essential—curiosity and a desire to learn will be valued.
