Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (on-site ideally 5 days/week; some flexibility considered)

Role Overview
My client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong background in motors or rotating machinery. This individual will play a key role in the design and development of next- electromechanical systems. The role includes leading mechanical design work, supporting technical decision-making, and working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the mechanical design of motor assemblies, rotating equipment, and associated subsystems.
Produce detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and supporting documentation.
Conduct stress, thermal, and structural analysis to validate component and system performance.
Engage with suppliers on component selection, manufacturability, and cost optimisation.
Participate in design reviews, offering expert insight into mechanical considerations.
Support prototype builds, testing, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement work.
Ensure compliance with relevant mechanical engineering standards and safety requirements.
Required Experience & Skills
Proven experience in mechanical design within motors, rotating machinery, or similar electromechanical environments.
Strong proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or equivalent).
Excellent understanding of materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and mechanical analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a methodical engineering approach.
Ability to work effectively on-site and collaborate with engineering and production teams.
Attributes
Experience with prototype development and test validation.
Familiarity with FEA tools and simulation workflows.
Strong communication skills with the ability to justify technical decisions clearly.
