Mechanical Design Engineer – Water & Wastewater | Manchester (Hybrid)\n\nLocation: Manchester – Hybrid working available\n\nType: Permanent or Contract (Outside IR35)\n\nWant to design infrastructure that keeps the UK’s water and wastewater networks running safely and efficiently? Ready to take ownership of technical delivery while working on nationally important treatment works upgrades?\n\nOur client is expanding their specialist design team and is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to deliver high-quality, compliant solutions across major UK water industry projects.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\n\nDesign mechanical solutions that meet safety, quality, and technical standards\nProduce design calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications\nDirect and support CAD technicians\nPrepare scopes and review outputs from subcontract M&E design teams\nLiaise with suppliers, review tenders, and specify equipment\nCarry out design investigations and technical reporting\nEnsure design changes are tracked and fully implemented\nEstimate design hours and support project planning\nPresent designs and attend stakeholder and client meetings\n\nWho You Are\n\nYou’re a practical, detail-focused engineer who understands water industry standards and enjoys seeing your designs come to life. You bring:\n\n5+ years’ mechanical design experience within the UK water industry\nGraduate, HND, or strong technician-level experience\nGood IT and design software skills\nRegistered with a professional body and working toward chartership\nStrong communication and coordination skills\n\n⭐ Desirable\n\nChartered Engineer status\nHydraulic design experience\nUMON scheme experience\nWastewater & clean water (infra and non-infra) project exposure\nKnowledge of construction methods, materials, and drawing practices\n\nThe Projects You’ll Work On\n\nYou’ll support varied, nationwide water infrastructure schemes including:\n\nUMON 3 & 4 upgrades at sewage treatment works\nMechanical design for wastewater and clean water treatment facilities\nBoth infrastructure and non-infrastructure programmes\n\nWhat’s On Offer\n\nCompetitive salary or strong contract rates (Outside IR35)\nHybrid working options (minimum 3 days office-based)\nWorkplace pension & employee benefits scheme (perm)\nOngoing training and career development\nFree parking\nGreat transport links\n\nReady to Make an Impact?\n\nIf you want to design meaningful water infrastructure projects, work with a motivated team, and build your career in a growing sector, we’d love to hear from you.
